One workshop, one team
Frames, upholstery, polish and sewing all happen under the same Rawang roof. Nothing is sub-contracted out, so the joinery you sign off on is the joinery that arrives.
Dawnplex is a small Selangor atelier of carpenters, upholsterers and finishers. We design every piece around the room it will sit in — the ceiling height, the timber it will face, the way the afternoon light moves across the floor.
We do not warehouse stock. Each commission is drawn, mocked-up in foam and sample wood, then built only after you have signed off on the final swatch — so what arrives at your door is exactly what was promised.

We work mostly in nyatoh, kembang semangkok and reclaimed cengal — properly seasoned to 9–12% moisture so frames stay quiet through Malaysia’s humid swings.
Quotations itemise frame, fill, fabric, finish and delivery. You see exactly where ringgit go — no opaque mark-ups, no “designer surcharge” for a paint colour.
Five families of work the workshop returns to most often. Each is a starting point — dimensions, timber and upholstery are tailored to your room.

Sized to the centimetre, with eight-way hand-tied springs and feather-wrapped foam — the way sofas used to be built.

Request a quotationDawnplex was set up in 2012 by a third-generation upholsterer who had spent twenty years working for European furniture houses out of Klang. The intent was simple: shorter lead times, more honest material specifications, and the option to commission pieces that retail showrooms simply will not build.
Today the team runs a 5,800 sq ft shop with a dedicated upholstery floor, a six-bay timber room, a polish booth and a fabric library that runs to over four hundred swatches.

A bespoke commission has four checkpoints — designed to give you the chance to redirect us before any timber is cut.
A studio visit or a Zoom call. We measure the room, walk through how the piece will live and capture the practicalities.
Two iterations of CAD elevations, swatches in the post, and an itemised quotation. Nothing moves until you sign off.
Frames, fill, upholstery, finish — all under one roof. You are welcome to visit mid-build to see the work in progress.
White-glove delivery anywhere in Peninsular Malaysia. Our installers carry the piece, place it, and remove the packaging.
We sent a hand-drawn sketch from a 1970s magazine. They came back with elevations the next week and the sofa arrived ten weeks later, exactly as drawn.
Twenty-four banquette seats for our restaurant fit-out, delivered ahead of schedule. Six years of daily punishment later, only one re-cover needed.
The fabric library is enormous and the team did not blink when I changed the leather colour twice. The chairs feel like an heirloom.
Send a measurement and a reference photo. We will reply with a sketch and a ringgit-honest quote within two working days.
